we want to sincerely thank the team of Sapienza University of Rome for the precious work of welcoming over 500 conference delegates to Rome, both online and onsite. Rome radiates only warmth to all of us Cumulusians. This awesome event managed to mobilize the whole Cumulus Family. Thank you!

Cumulus Membership for 2021 now totals 360 members from 63 countries (from 340 and 61 countries in 2020) a steady and sustainable rate of growth!

Cumulus President’s Message May 2021

Fourteen months ago, I wrote in this newsletter how New York was a shadow of its former self as it grappled with the onslaught of the pandemic. Today, I am happy to report that my city is springing back to life, due in part to widespread vaccination access and the arrival of mild spring weather prompting everyone to emerge from hibernation and quarantine.

Prof. Dr. Michael Erlhoff passed away on 1 May 21 at the age of 74. As the founding dean of the »Cologne Department of Design« (today: Köln International School of Design KISD) at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences, he taught and researched as a professor of design theory and history until 2012.

The international expert jury of the “Design for Sustainable Cities” student competition, co-held by BE OPEN and Cumulus in support of the United Nations SDG Programme, have selected two of the four competition winners – the awardees of the Main Prize and the Safe City Prize.

Cumulus President’s Message April 2021

My institution, Parsons School of Design at The New School, will end our spring semester in about 2 weeks. Like in many parts of the Global North where many of our 340+ Cumulus members are based, this will be the conclusion of a full academic year that our students and faculty have experienced teaching and learning online.
