This year Aalto sees three individuals from our community nominated to the finals: Maria Korkeila, alumni Eeva Rönkä and Sofia Okkonen.

The 32nd annual Festival International de Mode & de Photographie Hyères award will be held at the end of April in France. Each year the competition brings together the best and brightest in their field to be reviewed by a panel of influential artists, designers and professionals from various fields of fashion.

The universe has a way of making things happen at the exact time and place. Being part of the Cumulus Nottingham-Trent design conference is an experience of being churned out the vortex to new plateaus in a figurative sense, that is, from the idylls of a historic Manila campus to another, in the quaint city of Nottingham.

Both the prestigious Red Dot and iF rank Umeå Institute of Design (UID) at Umeå University as the best design school in Europe and the world. The school’s premises, in-house and external staff, and its focus on relevant collaborations with companies and the design profession are some of the factors that the school’s students believe are the underlying reasons for their school’s success.

“When you leave Umeå, you not only leave with a wide palette of skills, but also with a great network”, says Rebecca Daum, an Austrian student who is taking her second year of the Master’s programme in Advanced Product Design. “You will find UID alumni in all relevant design agencies and departments all over the world.”

When asked why Umeå Institute of Design have received so many design awards and so much international attention over the years she says:

“The projects we carry out focus on problem areas that matter and are relevant for the people in our time. In addition to that, the university environment provides you with everything you need for a successful project, whether it is facilities or staff.”

With the growth and strong reception of She Ji. The Journal of Design, Economics, and Innovation, submissions are rising. This is a welcome development. Because we are a hybrid journal, this also finds us in need of additional reviewers in several subject specialist disciplines to undertake double blind review of the submitted manuscripts.

It is difficult for a journal spanning several fields to develop and maintain a reviewer team with the right skills for all submissions. We value the contribution that reviewers make to She Ji, and we acknowledge the reviewers of articles in each issue. In most cases, we seek two reviews. We ask a member of the editorial board to write one, and we ask an external reviewer to write another. In the case of significant interdisciplinary articles, we may seek a third review.
