Locality is a reflection on the cultural differences brought about by regional differences in globalization, which emphasizes the realization of multicultural values. In the face of the international challenges of strong cultures, the protection and development of local culture is of great necessity. Contemporary design research and practice is expected to be rooted in national culture, deeply cultivated in traditional wisdom, inherit and continue the regional context, bring-back tradition to contemporary life, and realize the creative transformation of traditional culture. The “local culture” in the discussion of this conference covers the design culture involved in the lifestyle, creation thoughts, and aesthetic attitudes that are with regional characteristics.

As a discipline with strong practicality, the design discipline carries the mission and task of inheriting the national culture, and performing the role of serving national economy and people’s livelihood, as well as exhibiting the nature of cultural confidence. As General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out, fine arts, art, science, and technology complement each other, promote each other, and benefit each other. It is necessary to enhance cultural confidence, by taking aesthetics building as a medium, and strengthen international cultural exchanges.

This conference will be hosted with the hybrition of both online and offline, and is divided into three sections: keynotes, parallel forums and parallel workshops. Well-known design professors and practitioners at home and abroad are invited to discuss the locality of design culture, the diversity of design culture, cultural exchanges and challenges, design education and design discipline construction, from the perspective of a community with a shared future for mankind.

Butterflies Don’t Live in the Ghetto is the title of a long-term Second World War research, exhibition and publication project initiated and curated by Jan Van Woensel and organized in cooperation with the Photography Studio of the Faculty of Design and Art at the University of West Bohemia. Annually, since 2019, students engage in critical and introspective reflection on the history of World War II via research-based and artistic assignments that address the key moments of the war. “Butterflies” establishes a discourse between history and contemporary art and results in exhibitions (Czech Republic, Slovakia, Israel) and a publication featuring artworks, concept texts and essays.

Operation Anthropoid, 27 may 1942 is the subject of the third edition of “Butterflies”. Four leading historians explain the case of the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich by paratroopers Jan Kubiš and Josef Gabčík and the consequential Nazi reprisals, e.g. the eradication of the villages Lidice and Ležáky.

Robert Gerwarth is Professor of Modern History at University College Dublin and Director of the Center for War Studies.
Radka Šustrová is historian, political scientist and researcher at Charles University Prague and University of Cambridge.
Jana Raila Hlavsová is supervisor at the National Memorial of the Heroes of Heydrich’s Terror at the crypts of Saint Cyril and Methodius.
Eduard Stehlík is Director of Lidice Memorial and Museum and military historian.

The Fashion course at the University of Art and Design in Halle is a byword for a transhistorical and cultural practice closely linked to artistic authorship, helping to shape futures in its interaction with contemporary subjects.

We are looking for a renowned designer to fill the design chair. The incumbent has profound expertise based on many years of experience in practice and teaching and will shape and develop both the bachelor course Fashion Design and the master’s course Conceptual Fashion Design.

In addition to fulfilling the general appointment requirements according to § 35 HSG LSA, the successful candidate is expected to have a forward-thinking, critically reflective understanding of fashion which takes into account current cultural, societal, economic and ecological contexts, not least in light of sustainable structures and processes. Knowledge of international developments and perspectives in fashion design, as well as expertise in handling the latest technological developments are required.

The incumbent will be expected to develop a concept for the teaching of fundamental skills in the design process, as well as the promotion of approaches querying and expanding the format of collection creation. Teaching should promote the university-specific focus on materials and workshops as well as the dealing with material innovations. Experimental forms of presentation are explicitly welcomed. An active participation in academic self-governance is required.

Hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) and organized by Cumulus partner – the Seoul Design Foundation (SDF), the Award recognizes designers who built harmony between people and society as well as people and the environment to form sustainable cities.

The scope of the award has been broadened to encompass product, visual, digital and multimedia, space and system, experience, service, social, etc. with the intention to encourage the good efforts of designers in all fields.

In addition, the Citizens’ Award is introduced for the first time this year, which allows the public to take part in the screening process. The jury comprised of world-renowned experts in urban research and design has engaged in a total of three in-depth screening processes every year. This year, professional jurors from Korea and abroad will conduct the first and second rounds of screening in November and December, and the third round will be accompanied by presentations and by interviews with the top 10 candidates as well as citizens’ voting.

The screening will focus mainly on three aspects: whether thedesign provided (1) solutions for urban life issues, (2) visions forthe future, and (3) global values.

Another special award titled the “Safety & Security Award” is also introduced for the first time. This award will be presented to a project that helped maintain safety and security in cities in the face of threats from infectious diseases, natural disasters, and crimes.

We are looking for an outstanding and internationally recognized artist whose sculpture work makes a significant contribution to contemporary art.

Their central task is to head the field of study Sculpture / Materiality and Space.
The professorship advocates an open understanding of sculpture. In the field of tension between material and spatial concepts, subjects of teaching should include both classical sculptural working methods and transdisciplinary and technological developments.
Spatial artistic thinking extends sculptural work into the public and social space; it also includes reflection on social contexts.
Thus, the professorship focuses on current discourses on the subject of sculpture, which are applied, reflected and developed further.
The incumbent bears the coordinating responsibility for the subject-specific workshop belonging to the field of study, for which there is a separate workshop director.

Central tasks are:
– Artistic instruction and continuous supervision of students of the Sculpture / Materiality and Space courses.
