Cumulus members were active in New York in May: Aalto University, Art Center, Centro and Les Ateliers with two sister institutions.

A group of 26 students coming from six U.S. and International design universities participated in the 5th WantedDesign.

Design Schools Workshop, working together on ma t e r i a l e x p l o r a t i o n wi t h i n t h e theme “Playtime. ” The workshop, presented with media partner Core77, was conducted this year by Matt Sindall, designer and teacher at the French school ENSCI-Les Ateliers, in conjunction with Oui Design, an initiative from the Cultural Services of the French Embassy.

Participants were in six collaborative teams, which mix students from different schools and nationalities. A month prior to the workshop, students enter a preparation phase where they communicate via Skype and email to begin working on research and preliminary concepts.” The Workshop space was set up at WantedDesign Brooklyn, allowing the students to work in a creative environment and collaborate with various makers and studios based in Brooklyn, in particular those established at Industry City. The organizers were able to mobilize such mentors and partners,  so that the students and teachers were able to work with three different materials: wood, glass, and textile.
