Emmanuel Guez named new general manager of ÉSAD Orléans, France

The board of directors of the École Supérieure d’Art et de Design d’Orléans has named Emmanuel Guez as the school’s general manager.

Composed of the president of the ÉSAD and nine government personalities, representative of the Ministry of Culture, Orléans City Hall and Orléans Métropole, teachers and three experts from art and design, the jury unanimously selected his application.

From 1 October 2019, Emmanuel Guez will succeed Jacqueline Febvre, who will let at the School, a strong structure and identity, particularly marked by design, environment and digital technology. With about fifty professors and teaching assistants for 320 students, the ÉSAD Orléans offers a preparatory class for creative trades, two graduate courses in design visual, graphic, object and space (DNA for Bachelor degree and DNSEP for Master degree), a research unit (ECOLAB) and two post-graduate degrees.

Emmanuel Guez’s involvement in artistic life was marked by the creation and the development of high-level art research structures related to the digital environment. Since 2013, he has been co-director of the PAMAL laboratory, the first French laboratory for media archaeology and preservation of digital arts. From 2009 to 2012, at the Centre National des Écritures du Spectacle in the Chartreuse de Villeneuve-lez-Avignon, he co-directed the “Les Sondes” project, which aimed to measure effects of the digital environment on the writing of the show.

His dual activity as an artist and philosopher engaged in the field of arts and literature in theoretical texts, works produced with the help of the digital networks and in the design of collaborative events that have involved many French and international partners (Cinémathèque Française, Centre Pompidou, Labex Arts-H2H (Paris 8), Beaux-Arts de Paris, ENSP Arles, ENSAD, UQAM, ZkM, École de La Cambre…). Former Director of Research at the École Supérieure d’Art d’Avignon and interim director of studies (2013-2014), he defends a pedagogy based on research, combining theoretical and creative practices.

His project is to make the ÉSAD Orléans a design and art factory that is attentive to the needs of ecological, digital, political and technological issues. In constant contact with the actors in the Orléans metropolitan area, the school will expand its partnerships with higher education institutions, art centres, universities and research centres, companies and cultural structures.
