The department of Graphic Design Zwolle

Graphic Design Zwolle, or GDZ, is a programme within ArtEZ Academy for Art & Design Zwolle, an academy forming part of ArtEZ University of the Arts. The academy in Zwolle has a humanistic profile, dubbed Human Matters, in which artistry, engagement, narration, perception and physicality play a major role. In all courses, multidisciplinary cooperation and learning forms a large part of the curriculum.
Within the extensive field of visual communication, GDZ elects to focus on social design, training graphic designers who manage to visualise and communicate complex information on a human scale. These are artistically trained professionals who are capable of connecting craftsmanship and technical know-how with developing a communication strategy and who do so with an acute sense of their shared responsibility for fostering a cosmopolitan, multicoloured culture.

Your profile

As Head of GDZ you have the requisite leadership skills, enabling you to put together a team of professionals and collectively develop a vision in terms of graphic design within the humanistic profile in Zwolle. The profile of ArtEZ Academy for Art & Design in Zwolle appeals to you.
Furthermore, you have a vision of the current and future development of the subject of graphic design, which allows you to design the curriculum together with your team.
You are working in the field of graphic design and have up-to-date knowledge of information technology as a means of getting people to communicate with people and with systems.
You have experience in and with higher art education, are interested in it and develop this education continuously.
Your task

You will head up the team of teaching staff, holding ultimate responsibility for the education. You will be reporting to the board on the quality of the education and the course budget. On the one hand you will be continuously developing the course profile in the spirit of the academy’s humanistic profile together with the team, and on the other you will be constructing the academy’s profile together with the staff.

What we offer

You will be given a temporary (1-year) contract, commencing on 1 March 2017 or at your earliest convenience, for a role equivalent to 0.6 FTE. Depending on performance, the contract may be renewed. The gross monthly salary comes to a minimum of €4,722 and a maximum of €5,751 (job title Head of Studies B, pay scale 13) based on a 36-hour working week. In addition to an informal, open working atmosphere, we offer attractive terms of employment in line with the higher professional education collective agreement, such as an 8% holiday allowance, an 8.3% end-of-year bonus and good opportunities for study and development. You will be working in Zwolle.
