Job description

We are looking for a project employee/guest lecturer who can strengthen the research and education team. You will work in the Industrial Design Center within the Industrial Product Design programme in Kortrijk and will be part of a multidisciplinary team:

• As a project assistant, you will work on projects related to Internet or Things and the associated user experience of Iot-related products.
• You have programming skills to control open hardware via various protocols (python, esp32…).
• You are a programmer who has an understanding of the product development process around ‘smart products’ and an affinity with industrial design.
• You are responsible for the iterative construction, evaluation and adjustment of several hybrid prototypes. You can make technical choices; determine software- and hardware-architecture; technologies, hardware, software, configurations, … selecting.
• You connect with non-designers, coming from other disciplines, and help them to participate in Iot co-creation processes.
• You assist in setting up and taking ‘user tests’ and making requirements and wishes measurable.
• You will be responsible for the UX-lab/smart products lab: you will contribute to the further development of the research and services. You are given ownership of this lab and its appearance towards the industry.
• Depending on your interest, you will organise workshops or hackatons with companies and other knowledge institutions.
• As a guest lecturer, you will also be close to the students and other lecturers of the programme. You will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in topics and technologies such as VR/AR or IoT. Together with students, you will work out concrete proof-of-concepts with these technologies.
• General knowledge of 3D modelling is an added value.
• In addition, you will supervise a number of students in the development of their projects, work placement and bachelor’s thesis.

Profile

Diploma and knowledge required: Master’s degree with an affinity for informatics, product development and communication technology.

If you have a foreign diploma, with the exception of the Netherlands, a certificate of equivalence from NARIC (www.naric.be) must be added.

Appointment features

You will be appointed for a fixed term contract from 01/02/2021 to 31/01/2022. Extension is possible in function of project. A maximum of 10 years of relevant experience can be taken into account in the financial seniority.
