Lecturer in Managing and Mediating Art

The position will be filled for a fixed term of three (3) or five (5) years or permanently on any level of the Aalto University Lecturer Career System (University Teacher positions are normally fixed-term positions, whereas University Lecturer and Senior University Lecturer positions are normally permanent positions. Individuals recruited directly at the University Lecturer level will typically first have a fixed-term con-tract).

The position will begin October 1, 2016 or according to agreement.

Job description

The lecturer´s duties consist mainly of teaching within the major Curating, Managing and Mediating Art (CuMMA) at MA level. The lecturer will collaborate on the planning of the curriculum and will act as co-ordinator of courses, excursions and collaborations concerning the education within CuMMA. The lecturer is responsible for, among other duties, schedules and inviting visiting teachers, while also planning the annual schedule and resourcing for his/her field of teaching. The lecturer will guide and assess stu-dent assignments and thesis works and take part in the student selections. The lecturer will cooperate with the other schools of Aalto University, other universities, as well as museums and institutions within the local and international cultural field.

30 % of the duties are administrative tasks that consist of developing and implementing programs within Aalto University´s Artistic and Creative Activities.

Requirements The job requires experience in the development and management of cultural productions in contempo-rary art and experience in organizing educational and curatorial projects. The successful candidate is ex-pected to be familiar with the actors, organizations and policies in the local cultural field and art institu-tions. Project coordination and co-operation skills are essential, as the lecturer is expected to operate flexibly and open-mindedly in the multi-disciplinary environment of Aalto University.

The lecturer is required to have at least a higher university degree, i.e. master level, and suitable artistic-professional competency, practical work experience in the field of managing, mediating and curating art and experience in teaching in the university level. Research and other merits relevant to the field of the lectureship as well as pedagogic training are regarded an advantage. Fluent communication skills in Eng-lish and Finnish are essential.

Salary and working time

Salary will be determined upon competence and experience of the chosen person following the salary system of Finnish universities. Teaching personnel belong to the total working hours system, working 1600 hours annually.
