Professorship in Plastic Arts / Jewellery, Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle, Germany

We wish to appoint an individual with excellent artistic credentials and of international standing. The post-holder will be the head of the plastic arts/jewellery subject area, where the focus is on contemporary artistic jewellery and small-scale sculpture relating to human form.

In line with the orientation of the subject area, it is expected that the post-holder will support and supervise the students in developing their own artistic language. Teaching will likewise comprise an analysis of the spectrum of jewellery art.

Furthermore, the post-holder is expected to demonstrate confident use of traditional methods and artisan techniques of metal and gemstone processing, as well as unconventional materials and new production techniques.

In addition to fulfilling the conditions of appointment in accordance with § 35 of the Higher Education Act of the State of Saxony-Anhalt, the post-holder will be expected to meet the following requirements:

  • a comprehensive, original oeuvre with extensive exhibition work
  • higher education degree within an arts-degree programme or corresponding qualification
  • teaching qualification and verifiable teaching experience at a university or a corresponding institution outside the university system, or equivalent experience
  • high level of commitment to teaching
  • teaching of content in the history of art and contemporary jewellery art
  • innovative advancement of the artistic profile of jewellery as a subject area
  • collaborations within the university system
  • active participation in the university’s academic administration

The post is initially limited to five years. Exceptions to this will be considered via an appeals process.

The job advertisement is intended to explicitly address international jewellery artists and artists. Teaching is delivered in German.
