Theme: Rethinking arts-based research, artistic research -and global/local communities

Arts-based research and artistic research are often seen as controversial and sometimes contradictory territories that intersect between scientific research and artistic practice and/or artistic thinking.

The themes of each proceeding conference have varied from critical discussion concerning the intersections between arts and research to the latest conference addressing what is and can be considered artistic or arts-based research. These conferences have significantly aided in the development of vocabulary and concepts for arts-based and artistic research for researchers and students from all over Europe as well as aided attendants in creating a community of scholars interested in artistic or arts-based formulations of research and writing.

The theme of the 4th conference focuses on explorations of arts-based and artistic research in addressing issues relevant to local and global communities. In general, the conference presenters and participants will engage with the question, “What is the relationship between arts-based and artistic research and communities?”
