The Design Faculty at the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle is looking to fill the following position for the study programmes of Communication Design and Editorial Design at the earliest possible opportunity:
Professorship (W 3) Communication Design / Information Design
The BA degree in Communication Design integrates visual communication, graphic design, typography and font design, illustration, photography and information design. In the Master’s degree programme of Editorial Design, the focus lies on the authorship of the designer.
The aim of the study programme in Information Design is to provide students with a broad repertoire of methods and design options, equipping them to take on a responsible role in the development of complex information and communication scenarios in relation to design strategies in the transfer of media knowledge.
The following is expected from the successful applicant:
– Outstanding achievements in the development and application of complex information architectures and visual systems as well as relevant teaching experience;
– The development and application of a teaching concept for the project course in the main subject area of Information Design, i.e. instruction of design strategies in relation to complex
circumstances and problems, data analysis as well as design transformation with appropriate means;
– Instruction in fundamental knowledge about the use and range of applications for information visualisation in all media;
– Teaching programmes in the Bachelor degree in Communication Design and the Master’s degree in Editorial Design for design projects as well as discipline-specific teaching of fundamental knowledge in 1st and 2nd year of studies;
– Collaboration with other main subject areas in the development of the study programme, the supervision of general projects, the planning and implementation of events such as lectures series, symposia, exhibitions and so on;
– Participation in the development of tertiary education in the Design Faculty and in the identification of relevant fields of research.
Besides fulfilling the general requirements of the position in accordance with § 35 HSG LSA, it is desirable for the applicant to have direct access to themes specific to an art university setting as well as to make a committed contribution to academic self-governance. Tenure is initially restricted to five years in principle; exceptions will be decided on during the appointment procedure. Remuneration will be made in accordance with the legal and budgetary requirements. Women are explicitly invited to apply.
