Study information

The profile of the new graduate program in transdisciplinary design at Folkwang University of the Arts revolves around Foucaults concept of »Heterotopia«, which stands for discourse, reflection and confrontation between various disciplines within a heterogeneous community. The 3-year graduate program concludes with the degree »Folkwang Letter of Design« (180 credit points / equivalent to the Master of Arts). It is an ideal preparation for a following doctorate.

Heterotopia places its students as independent »authors« into the centre of their graduate study program. Students have the choice to join seven studios of different design fields in which they can develop their own research project guided by chosen mentors. Within this joint exploration the students can train their design and research skills in theory and practice.

The Master Artistic Research is a two-year interdisciplinary master’s, and is a collaboration between the Royal Academy of Art (KABK) and the Royal Conservatoire (KC), both in The Hague. The course is based in the art academy and within fine arts discourse, with an emphasis on the voice and performativity in their broadest sense.
